Academic Committee
The Academic Committee is the supreme professional body of the Society and its members include recognized technical and managerial authorities from various economy sectors. The Academic Committee has 15 academicians and 35 senior specialists and engineers, self-employed and employees, all with a superb professional; track record. The Academic Committee is an objective body on electrical engineering matters, which that was established to deliberate various important issues, to present a professional opinion and to advise the decision making echelon of the Israeli economy.
The Academic Committee agenda focuses on the crucial electrical engineering topics and comprises topics such as: certification, registration and training of electrical engineering professionals, standardization and certification of testing personnel, power quality and reliability, environmental impact of electrical installations, utility market structure, and many others.
The Academic Committee delegates specialist subcommittees that provide advice to the government and to governmental institutions
Professional Training
It is the Society objective to foster the necessary pool of professionals required for future of the utility sector, by passing the body of knowledge amassed by the experienced but aging generation on to the new generation. This objective has already materialized in the form of the Society training program that is gaining momentum from year to year, and is staffed by the best and most experienced trainers in their respective fields of expertise.
The training program conducted this year include the following courses:
| ENGINEERING MANAGEMENT OF ELECTRICAL INSTALLATIONS AND SYSTEMS |
MAINTENANCE AND SAFETY |
| Electromagnetical Compatibility |
Power Quality |
| Electrical Panel Testing |
Medical Installation Certification |
| Control System Design |
Basic Communications |
| Smart Building Design Principles |
Illumination Systems |
All the Society courses are coordinated with and under the supervision of academic institutions, and are approved by the Ministry of Education.
Future plans include the training of design engineers and the accreditation of electrical testing technicians.
Conventions
The Society routinely conducts a general annual convention and per-sector conventions of the of the Israel National Committee on Illumination, the Maintenance and Safety Chapter, the Electromagnetical Compatibility Chapter of the testing Engineers Union.
The annual convention is the high point of the electrical and electronics engineers' community serving as platform for the presentation of innovations, success stories, new developments, updates, new ideas and approaches, all in a broad spectrum of topics associated with electrical engineering, energy, control and communications.
During the convention, awards for distinguished life achievement in the field of electrical engineering are handed by the Minister of National Infrastructures, and society honorary membership certificates are awarded to society members that made significant contributions to the development and building of the electrical sector.
It is the Society tradition to award at each annual convention scholarships to outstanding students of electrical and power electronics engineering.
The annual convention also fosters the social and cultural solidarity among society members.
Last years' convention Electricity 2006 was the first international event of this kind, convened by the Society and two of the biggest world societies operating in Israel as well, with IEEE of USA and IEE of the UK.
About one thousand engineers, academicians and other professionals from more than 300 businesses and institutions, with approx. 80 of them from 20 other countries, attended that convention. The trade show held during the convention where forty leading companies from Israel and abroad displayed advanced electrical products, new hardware products, modern software and innovative technologies.
This year's convention, Electricity 2007, will take place during November in Eilat.
The Society Periodical
The Society periodical Electricity and People is publish every two months in the Hebrew language and is distributed in thousand of copies to all society members and to a vast numbers of electrical and electronics engineering professionals and decision makers. The periodical serves as platform for presenting technical issues, engineering and scientific papers, and up to date information from Israel and abroad. Articles are accepted from non-society members as well.
Outlook
The present society initiatives are to establish a research fund and to found a larger electrical engineering training center.
The society continuously strives to expand and strengthen its ties and cooperation with other local and foreign professional societies in the areas of mutual interest, and to improve the representation of electrical and electronics engineers with the bodies that affect the engineering work in Israel.
The progress in the various areas of electrical standardization and legislation, the accreditation of testing engineers and technicians, and the certification of electrical engineers, are on the standing agenda of the society.
